Green Roof
Objective
Using rainwater from the roof of the school building for watering and vapour.Scheduled Activities
Reconstruction of the roof cover of the ZŠ Lomnica building, removal of the original roof cover and isolation, installation of thermo and hydro isolation, installation of vegetation roof layers of 338 m2.Realized Activities
In the first decade of July 2015 the workers of the Municipality of Vranov nad Topľou and an external contractor undertook demolition works with the aim to remove the original roof cover of the school building which had been made of layers of scoria, aerated concrete blocks, sand screed and bitumen-cardboards with the total width of 18 cm. Construction waste incurred was separated to be placed in the waste dump for secondary usage. In the second and third decade of July 2015 the green roof of 338 m2 was constructed. Its bottom part is made of layers providing thermo-isolation and water-resistant isolation. The upper part is made of layers destined to catch rainwater and to provide the conditions for growing short vegetation blended of 28 plant species.
The green roof implementation comprised building of a 40 cm drainage barrier around the roof. The final stage of making the green roof required heavy watering. In September 2015 the first plant shoots appeared on the roof of the school building.
